2023 Season 1 Recap
Maccabi had two teams in the Table Tennis Victoria Pennant Season 1 grand final. Unfortunately, both teams were unsuccessful and finished runners-up. Both teams from Division 3 (Dean Frenkel, Mark Freedman, Jack Cyngler & Sam Parasol) & Division 5 (Boris Burd, Les Lesman, Harold Shafer & John Cukier) played the top-ranked teams of the home and away season who were too strong in the end. Season 2 begins in June with Maccabi fielding teams in Division 2 thru to Division 6.
Maccabi players have featured strongly in tournaments recently.
In the Geelong Open, Paul Bronstein and Michael Geller won the over-60 & over 65 doubles. Paul Bronstein won the over-65 singles final 3-0. Shamir Freedman won three matches at the recent Geelong Open and is regularly competing against the best juniors in the State and hopes to make the Australian Maccabi team next year.
In the Dandenong Open, Michael Geller won the over-65 singles.
In the Victorian Open, Michael Geller won the singles and doubles with Paul Bronstein in the over-65’s event. Igor Klaf won the over 75 and 80 singles.
Season 2 has begun for Maccabi teams at Phoenix Park on both Monday evenings & Thursday evenings with players of all ages and abilities. Mark Levin is leading the rankings for Section A with an 8-2 record with David Freedman (10-0) & John Stern (7-3) the leading players for Section B. A huge improvement from both over Season 1. Obviously, both players have been practicing in the off-season.
We welcome players of all ages and abilities.
